Pavan discharged after elevator fall

Italian golfer Andrea Pavan has been discharged from a South African hospital one week after falling three stories down an elevator shaft during the DP World Tour's Investec South African Open.

Pavan, 36, underwent surgeries on his shoulder and back after suffering fractures to several vertebrae in the February 25 accident. He will remain in South Africa for approximately five more weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the United States.

The golfer expressed gratitude for the support he's received, noting he's able to walk at a slow pace. A GoFundMe set up by a former teammate has raised over $81,000 for his recovery. Pavan has won twice on the DP World Tour, with his most notable victory coming at the 2019 BMW International Open in Germany.
