Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews described his team's performance as 'embarrassing' following a 5-2 loss to Ottawa that dropped Toronto to last in the Atlantic Division.

The defeat marked another step in Toronto's downward spiral, with the Leafs now sporting a negative-15 goal differential - the worst mark in their division. Despite having 27 regulation wins against 24 losses, the team has lost nine games in overtime and appears headed for a significant roster shakeup at the upcoming trade deadline.

'Very soon, the Maple Leafs will look much different than they do right now,' reported The Sporting News, noting that Toronto's recent losses include 4-2 to Tampa Bay, 5-1 to Florida, and now 5-2 to Ottawa.
