Syracuse University sophomore Drew Zundell made history over the weekend, becoming the third runner from West Virginia to ever break the four-minute barrier in the mile. The former University High School state champion crossed the finish line in 3:59.04 at a meet in Boston.
The achievement held special significance as former Syracuse coach Chris Fox, one of the other two West Virginians to accomplish the feat, was on hand to witness Zundell's historic run. "It was for our state, and for me to do it for the program he built, just really felt like a full-circle moment," Zundell said.
