Lamine Yamal was one of the highlights of Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid last night at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The game ended 3-0 in the Catalans’ favour and would have been celebrated on any other occasion. Given that they were chasing a four-goal deficit, however, it was not enough to see them through to the final of the Copa del Rey.
Yamal, needless to say, was central to the team’s attacking prowess on the night and delivered one of his best-ever shows in a Barcelona shirt.
The numbers speak volumes
What Yamal produced against Diego Simeone’s side last night has got football fans across the world praising him to no end, and not without reason. His numbers, after all, are just berserk.
In 90 minutes against Los Rojiblancos, Yamal completed a staggering 14 of 19 attempted dribbles for the team with a completion rate of 73.6%.
The 18-year-old wonderkid was all over Atletico Madrid’s Matteo Ruggeri and attacked relentlessly with easy access to the visitors’ area.
It is, in fact, the second time he hit that number of dribbles in a game, for he achieved the same feat against Inter Milan in Italy last season.
In addition to his mere dribbles, Yamal racked up four key passes, created two big chances and won 14 duels in addition to earning the assist for Marc Bernal’s opener.
No player in world football is even remotely close to Yamal’s attacking brilliance. He leads the global charts with 107 successful take-ons this season, and the next highest is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande at 79.
While he will be disappointed with the result, Yamal will look to rest and recover at the earliest for Barcelona’s next game and upcoming challenges in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
