TexAgs' Billy Liucci praises Texas A&M's 'reloaded' 2026 roster

Texas A&M's 2026 spring football season will begin on Friday, March 20, as third-year head coach Mike Elko has assembled a roster featuring 17 additions from the transfer portal, while key starters and reserves from the 2025 season have re-signed with the program, including redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed.

If I were to predict the national narrative surrounding the Aggies this offseason, Marcel Reed's inability to consistently defeat Power Four opponents with winning records will become the talking point whenever Texas A&M is brought up in the mediasphere. However, after losing his offensive and defensive coordinators to other jobs, five staff elevations, including new OC Holmon Wiggins, will also be widely discussed.

16 days before the spring season begins, one of the more prominent voices in Texas A&M media, TexAgs co-owner Billy Liucci, made an appearance on the Paul Finebaum show to provide a short preview of his expectations for the Aggies in 2026, focused on the Aggies' transfer success, feeling that the roster is "reloaded" and avoided a rebuild.

"I love what they did in the portal," Liucci stated. "Particularly from the SEC. I think they can get back (to the College Football Playoff). I think they will build on last year. Everything about it is trending upward and I think that continues."

While this is simply an opinion from the veteran analyst, Mike Elko and his staff deserve a ton of credit for, yes, reloading the roster with experienced veterans possessing NFL potential, led by former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton, and Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka.

However, Texas A&M's secondary, now featuring Colorado transfer safety Tawfiq Byard and Tennessee transfer cornerback Rickey Gibson, who are both expected to make a significant impact among the already established defensive back room.
