On Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, the Kentucky Wildcats will tip off against Texas A&M in what will be their final road test of the season. The Aggies have an identical 19-10 record as the Cats this year, but are one game behind in the SEC standings.
Seeding in next week’s conference tournament will come down to how these last few games play out. With the No. 5 Gators coming to Lexington on Saturday, it would serve UK well to find a way to win in College Station in a game that’s expected to come down to the wire.
The Aggies are led by senior Rashaun Agee’s 14.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. In his last outing against Texas, Agee poured in 22 points on 8/17 shooting, but his team came up short 76-70.
The 6-7 Chicago native has only missed reaching double-digits in scoring three times all season. With A&M’s postseason favor hanging in the balance, you can bank on Agee pressing to have a big game in his last game in front of the home crowd.
For Mark Pope and Kentucky, it will be about building on the momentum of thrashing Vanderbilt on Saturday. Sustaining that same kind of winning execution will be a welcome sight for the BBN, considering the understandable apprehension that still surrounds this team.
Another dominating win could translate to a better SECT seed, but maybe more importantly, breed even more valuable March confidence and set the stage for what could be a special postseason run.
I expect Otega Oweh to feed off of the College Station hate that’s undoubtedly coming his way and have a big night statistically. The SEC’s Preseason Player of the Year has worked his season average up to 17.7 points per game and has treated us all to some highlight reel dunks the past few weeks.
It’s hard to believe that the calendar has turned to March and there are just two games left before the regular season is in the books.
Here’s to hoping this turns into a fun ride for BBN!
