Mar. 2—GRAND FORKS — For the third time in four years, Grand Forks Red River has North Dakota's Outstanding Senior Athlete in boys hockey.
Red River's Griffen Haagenson received the honor late Saturday night after Grand Forks Central's championship win over Red River in the state title game at Scheels Arena in Fargo.
Last year's honor, which previously has been known as Mr. Hockey, went to Minot's Mackley Morelli. The previous two winners were Red River's Grant Gardner (2024) and Mikey Coleman (2023).
Haagenson, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward, finished the year with a team-high 59 points and a team-best 36 assists.
Haagenson's 23 goals were second on Red River to Caden Ulmer, who ended with 32.
In the East Region and state tournaments, Haagenson had a combined 13 points. In the region tournament, he had six goals and one assist, while he added six assists in the state tournament.
Haagenson, who will play college baseball at the University of Jamestown next season, had at least one point in all 27 Red River games this season.
