Stephen Curry ceded Chase Center's spotlight to LeBron James and Luka Doncic.
With Curry sidelined for a 10th straight game, the Golden State Warriors were overwhelmed Saturday by James, Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers in a 129-101 loss. James scored 20 first-half points en route to 22 points, seven rebounds and nine assists and Doncic scored 16 third-quarter points on his way to 26 points, six rebounds and eight assists.
Golden State was short on shot creation without Curry (runner's knee) and Kristaps Porzingis, who missed his fourth straight game with an illness. The Warriors shot 12-for-44 from 3-point range, lost the first quarter 33-20 and couldn't successfully play catch-up with the Lakers shooting 53.3%.
Gui Santos led Golden State with 14 points. Will Richard sprained his right ankle in the first half and didn't return to play.
The Warriors (31-29) struggled to a 65-47 halftime deficit, shooting 5-for-24 from 3-point range and missing nine of their first 10 shots. James attacked for 7-for-10 shooting – including 4-for-4 from 3-point range – and helped the Lakers shoot 53.2% from the field amid a series of high-percentage looks.
Save for a 15-6 second-quarter run with James (and the Warriors' Draymond Green) on the bench, Golden State was short again on offensive effectiveness. Los Angeles (35-24) outsourced offense to James, Doncic and Austin Reaves (18 points) for stretches en route to 9-for-17 shooting from deep.
Doncic made four 3-pointers in the first 4:53 of the second half, promptly stretching Golden State's deficit to 25. The Warriors, who would trail by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter, return to play Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers at Chase Center.
