On the second night of a back-to-back, a short-handed Golden State Warriors roster secured a 133-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Rather than having a standout performer, Steve Kerr's team produced an exceptional display of team basketball, with eight of the nine-man rotation finishing the game with double-digit scoring nights.
During his post-game news conference, head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that without the team's star players, a complete and connected performance is necessary for the Warriors to secure a win. Furthermore, Kerr stressed that ball-movement and pace of play are the prime assets the short-handed version of the roster can bring to the table.
“That’s the formula for sure," Kerr said when asked about the ball-movement and pace. "And we’ve got to continue to plug away. I’m really enjoying coaching these guys. They’ve been great. Just the energy, the enthusiasm supporting each other.”
Golden State's win over the Grizzlies ensured the team didn't suffer consecutive defeats. As such, the Warriors remain in the hunt for the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Kerr's team is currently four games behind the Los Angeles Lakers, who currently sit sixth, with four games separating the two franchises.
The Warriors will have an opportunity to cut that gap to three games when they face the Lakers on Saturday, Feb. 28.
