Henrikh Mkhitaryan was in no mood to celebrate Inter Milan’s growing Serie A lead after scoring the opener in Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Lecce.

Furthermore, urging his teammates and supporters alike to keep their feet firmly on the ground with a busy and defining week ahead.

Tuesday’s Champions League second leg against Bodo/Glimt is looming large.

Indeed, Mkhitaryan was focused entirely on the task ahead rather than the points tally behind.

“It means nothing right now,” he said of Inter’s advantage at the top.

“We are thinking about the games ahead of us. We are not thinking about the table, there are many matches still to play so we are calm and clear-headed about what awaits us.”

On Tuesday’s second leg, Inter need to overturn a 3-1 deficit against the Norwegian side.

Mkhitaryan was quick to call upon the one factor that could make all the difference at San Siro.

“We will need our 12th player, the fans,” he said.

“We hope that with our supporters and our desire to go through, we can win the game.”
