McCarthy Practices, Role Unclear with Giants

J.J. McCarthy is practicing for the first time with the New York Giants following a trade from Minnesota, though his role for this weekend remains uncertain. Coach John Harbaugh confirmed Jameis Winston will start at quarterback Sunday against Arizona, but the Giants have not specified whether McCarthy or practice squad QB Jake Haener will back up Winston.

The Giants gave up a fifth-round pick for McCarthy after losing Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns to season-ending injuries. Harbaugh called McCarthy 'a very talented player who is going to make us a stronger football team.' Winston completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards in last week's 12-7 win over Tennessee, with the Giants scoring only on field goals and a late defensive touchdown. truewildgame.com
