Ilia Topuria says Islam Makhachev fight has to happen

UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria insists the fight with Islam Makhachev must happen, though he claims the scheduling is not under his control.

Topuria is currently booked to face Justin Gaethje on June 11th at the UFC White House card. While he acknowledges the massive draw of a matchup with Makhachev, he deferred to the UFC regarding scheduling. He emphasized focusing on what is within his control and stated his goal remains a 'triple crown' pursuit, regardless of the opponent.

Topuria also denied accusations of pricing himself out, claiming he was offered the Makhachev fight before an injury forced a switch to Gaethje.
