Fissette cites fit issues in brief Swiatek partnership

Wim Fissette said his coaching stint with Iga Swiatek was hampered by a lack of fit and language barriers, prompting the Polish star’s early exit at the Miami Open. He added Swiatek will face Magdalena Frech at the Charleston Open on April 5.

Fissette said Swiatek was not happy from the start and that the partnership never clicked, citing a language barrier and a mismatch with the existing team structure that included psychologist Daria Abramowicz. He acknowledged the difficulty of meeting the high expectations after her dominant years, and admitted that the results in his 64‑17 season record were not enough.

Swiatek will return to the court at the Charleston Open on April 5, facing Magdalena Frech, with former coach Francisco Roig by her side. Fissette will soon resume coaching duties with Belgium for the Billie Jean King Cup tie against the United States.
