Blue Jays' Santander: Shoulder Pain Forced Surgery

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Anthony Santander has revealed that shoulder pain returned in January when he resumed hitting, leading to surgery for a torn labrum that will keep him sidelined for 5-6 months.

Santander, 31, missed most of last season rehabbing the same left shoulder, appearing in just 54 regular-season games. The injury was discovered via MRI after rest failed to alleviate the pain.

The outfielder is entering the second year of a five-year, $92.5-million contract signed with the Blue Jays ahead of last season.
