Harbaugh backs struggling McDaniel

Published September 29, 2026 · Updated September 29, 2026 · NBC Sports

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh publicly supports offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel amid offensive struggles.

Despite the Chargers offense ranking 20th in the league with quarterback Justin Herbert posting a 73.4 passer rating, Harbaugh has not considered taking play-calling duties from McDaniel. "No, we trust Mike. We believe in Mike," Harbaugh stated.

The team has more turnovers (six) than touchdowns (five) this season. While Harbaugh has publicly criticized Herbert for needing "to be better" in decision-making, he has not done the same with McDaniel, who he hired this offseason to add a dynamic element to the offense. catcrossgame.com
