Former Player Robert Woods Joins Rams Coaching Staff
The Los Angeles Rams announced its full 2026 coaching staff on Monday. Former Rams wide receiver Robert Woods was named the team’s assistant wide receiver coach for the 2026 season.
This will be Woods’ first NFL coaching job after retiring as a player on Feb. 17. Woods played the last two active seasons of his career with the Houston Texans. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 season but did not play in a game after the franchise released him in August.
Woods played five seasons with the Rams from 2017-21.
The announcement also revealed that Kliff Kingsbury will serve as Sean McVay’s assistant head coach next season. It had been previously reported that Kingsbury would be part of the Rams’ coaching staff in 2026 but his role within the staff had not been reported.
Woods Signed A One-Day Contract to Retire With the Rams
Woods signed a one-day contract with the Rams to retire with the franchise on Tuesday.
McVay took over as the Rams’ head coach in 2017 when Woods signed with the team as a free agent from the Buffalo Bills. Therefore, McVay and Woods are familiar with each other.
In 2018 and 2019, Woods had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons with the Rams. He was also part of the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI championship team. Woods suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear in mid-November of that season, so he did not compete during the playoffs.

Would Kirk Cousins consider a return to the Vikings after release?
The Atlanta Falcons have made it official: They will be releasing quarterback Kirk Cousins on March 11th, making him a free agent.
Falcons' general manager, Ian Cunningham, announced it on Tuesday morning.
“What he’s done in his career, we owe that to him just to allow him some clarity going into free agency,” Cunningham said at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
This move doesn’t come as a shock to most. There was speculation before the announcement that Cousins would be cut. Atlanta signed Cousins two years ago to a $180 million contract, but then they drafted Michael Penix in the 2024 draft to the shock of many.
But what happens next with Cousins? Well, he can always return to the Minnesota Vikings, which many think he may do, but does he want to be a backup again?
The Vikings are clearly looking at other options after J.J. McCarthy’s struggles last season. Now Cousins is 37 years old, and he could just take the money the Falcons owe him and retire, but it doesn’t seem he’s open to that.
Despite his age, Cousins is going to be one of the hottest names in free agency.
