For the third offseason in a row, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a major need for a wide receiver. After trading for and investing in DK Metcalf long-term, the Steelers still found themselves with depth issues in the room that limited them offensively, especially during the receiver’s suspension at the end of last season.
When asked if he would change anything about the way he addressed the room over the last few seasons at the NFL Combine, Khan had an interesting response.
“I don’t think we were good enough overall,” Khan said. “We didn’t win a single playoff game; that’s not good enough. So we have to be better at every position.”
Khan’s mention of playoff games shows that the Steelers’ playoff win drought, now approaching a decade, is on the organization’s mind as much as it is the fans’. If the Steelers want to win in the postseason, another major upgrade at wide receiver will be crucial to breaking that streak.
The investment at wide receiver could very well happen on night one of the NFL Draft. With a deep receiver class and twelve picks at their disposal, the Steelers could be in prime position to trade up a few spots for the right receiver. Khan also said the Steelers are in a good situation cap-wise, so I wouldn’t count out the Steelers investing in a receiver when free agency opens next month.
One thing is clear: Khan and the Steelers are willing to invest in the receiver room again this offseason in an attempt to win their first playoff game in nearly a decade.
