Colorado women's basketball nearing NCAA tournament "lock" status

Colorado Buffaloes women's basketball controls its own March destiny.

After winning eight of their last nine games, Colorado received the most votes among "others receiving votes" in Monday's latest AP Poll, seven points behind the No. 25-ranked Princeton. It is the Buffaloes' first time receiving votes this season, coming after their upset win over No. 20-ranked Texas Tech.

Nestled among the top of the Big 12, Colorado has placed itself firmly in the NCAA tournament conversation with the upset.

In its final stretch, Colorado will face the Utah Utes in their final home game and the BYU Cougars in Provo. If the Buffaloes run the table, they secure a double-bye and four-seed in the Big 12 tournament and make themselves a lock for the NCAA tournament. Dropping one of its last two games, Colorado would leave a slight doubt and would likely need to win at least one game in the conference tournament.

As of Feb. 24, ESPN's bracketology has Colorado in the "Last Four In" category, meaning the Buffaloes will have to play one game to get into the tournament. However, in ESPN's next update, Colorado should be out of the bubble and could remain there if the Buffaloes win out.
