MM 2.23: Maryland baseball drops 15-inning thriller to Louisiana, 6-5

Maryland baseball cemented its first weekend series loss of the 2026 campaign with its longest contest since 1995 — Sunday’s 15-inning affair ended with Louisiana prevailing over the Terps, 6-5.

Logan Hastings nearly won Maryland the ballgame by himself on the mound. The sophomore right-hander handled 7.2 innings of work and retired each of the first 12 batter he faced.

Ryan Bailey replaced Hastings in the 14th inning, and although he worked the Cajuns for a 1-2-3 frame, he ultimately gave up a single to center field in the 15th inning that drove in Steven Spalitta for the win.

On offense, the Terps had a few stellar individual performances. Ryan Costello homered twice, and gave Maryland an initial two-run lead with his blast in the first inning. He leads the Terps with 24 total bases this season. David Mendez also shined with a home run and a double — he drove in one run on those two hits combined.

Costello and Mendez’s back-to-back homers in the sixth innings knotted the game up at four apiece. After the Cajuns took a 5-4 lead, Brayden Martin drove in the game-tying run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh frame. Neither team would cross home plate for the next eight innings.
