Louisville never trailed for a second as they celebrated Senior Day with an 87-70 win over Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon inside the KFC Yum Center.

Mikel Brown Jr. led the Cards with 19 points, while the senior trio of J’Vonne Hadley (17), Ryan Conwell (15) and Isaac McKneely (14) also scored in double figures.

It wasn’t all pretty for U of L. The Cardinals allowed multiple runs of 10-0 or more against a Yellow Jacket team that lost for the ninth straight time. Louisville also struggled again with turnovers, giving the ball away a season-high 18 times.

Louisville made up for those deficiencies by shooting 52% (27-of-52) from the field, 45% (14-of-31) from three, and 95% (19-of-20) from the free-throw line. They also forced Tech into 17 turnovers of their own.

Senior walk-on Spencer Legg added the afternoon’s exclamation point by burying the second made shot of his Cardinal career with a three-pointer in the game’s closing seconds.

It was not an overwhelmingly encouraging performance against the current worst power conference team in college basketball, but it got the job done.

Huge opportunity in Chapel Hill coming up in about 48 hours.
