The LSU Tigers have figured out the biggest parts of their roster, but one of their major conference opponents is still trying to figure out their quarterback situation.
The Tennessee Volunteers could be without their passing leader from last year, Joey Aguilar, as the quarterback's request for an injunction, which would allow him another year of eligibility, was denied in court on Friday, per On3's Chris Low.
This will obviously majorly impact the November 21 game between the two teams. The Volunteers have a couple of other quarterback options, but none are as certain as Aguilar would have been.
Josh Heupel did land the No. 3 passer in the 2026 recruiting class, five-star Faizon Brandon. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school and has sky-high potential, but is very raw. He's still just 17 years old and missed some of his final season due to injury.
They also have redshirt freshman George MacIntyre to turn to, a four-star from the 2025 class. He just doesn't have much experience to fall back on. He completed 7 of his 9 pass attempts this past season for 69 yards in two appearances against East Tennessee State and New Mexico State.
Those are two potentially rewarding, but volatile young options. The most experienced option they have is Ryan Staub, who spent three years as a backup for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Staub has completed 53.5% of his 99 career pass attempts for 681 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
By the time the Tigers face Tennessee, the Volunteers will likely be working with one of those two younger options at quarterback. That should, in theory, give LSU even more of a leg up than they would have already had.
The Tigers were embarrassed by Heupel's squad the last time they played back in 2022, when Tennessee won 40-13 in Baton Rouge. This could be Lane Kiffin's chance to help LSU get a little bit of payback.
