After inking a massive five-year, $265 million contract extension last offseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy dealt with a toe injury in 2025 that caused him to miss eight games.
In his nine starts, Purdy still went on to lead the team to a 7-2 record while completing 69.4% of his passes for 2,167 yards, 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for another 147 yards and two scores.
How good was Purdy compared to some of the league's best? Pro Football Focus is dropping their list of the top-101 players from the 2025 season, and Purdy came in at No. 81.
"Purdy missed a significant portion of the season, but he was outstanding when he was on the field for the 49ers," they wrote. "His 82.6 PFF passing grade ranked sixth among quarterbacks, while his 75.7 PFF rushing grade ranked eighth. He was especially effective when getting the ball out within 2.5 seconds. On those plays, Purdy earned an 87.7 PFF overall grade, which ranked fifth in the NFL, and his 118.6 passer rating ranked third."
PFF has only released players 101-81, and Purdy is higher than Justin Herbert (No. 99) and Super Bowl champion Sam Darnold (No. 93)
As long as Purdy's healthy, the 49ers have a quarterback who can run Kyle Shanahan's system expertly. Now, they just need to surround him with more weapons, which will become progressively more difficult as the extension kicks in.
